Job Title: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Department: EHS

Reports To: General Manager

Location: Athi River

Gross Salary: KES. 150,000 – 190,000

Client Description; Our client is a well-established manufacturer of edible oil & bar soaps.

Job Purpose;

To develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety systems that ensure compliance with legal requirements and promote a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities;

1. EHS Strategy & Compliance

  • Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and programs in line with local regulations and international standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including OSHA guidelines and environmental regulations.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure timely submission of required reports.

2. Risk Management

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard identification across all departments.
  • Implement control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Maintain risk registers and ensure follow-up on corrective actions.

3. Incident Management

  • Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting of incidents.

4. Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all staff understand emergency procedures.

5. Environmental Management

  • Monitor environmental impact (waste, emissions, effluents).
  • Ensure proper waste disposal and sustainability practices.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce environmental footprint.

6. Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans (fire, chemical spills, etc.).
  • Conduct drills and simulations regularly.
  • Coordinate with external emergency services.

7. Audits & Inspections

  • Conduct internal EHS audits and inspections.
  • Prepare for external audits and certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Track and close audit findings.

8. Contractor & Visitor Safety

  • Ensure contractors comply with EHS requirements.
  • Conduct safety inductions for visitors and contractors.

9. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare EHS reports, dashboards, and KPIs.
  • Maintain documentation related to safety procedures, audits, and compliance.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in workplace incidents and Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)
  • Compliance rate with legal and internal EHS standards
  • Percentage of completed safety audits and corrective actions
  • Training completion rate
  • Environmental targets (waste reduction, emissions control)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field
  • Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) preferred
  • 5–8 years of EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of local EHS regulations
